in fact -- no, doesn't work...

the test data that I made was 0 in the first planes, but the required circular shift makes those planes 0 in the output too -- which is not good if the input isn't 0 there!!!

is there a way to get round these shifts?

just tried shifting the 'dist' array but that doesn't work...
