Romantic woman needs math geek help
Posted: Jan 30, 2013 7:03 PM

A woman posting on Yahoo! Answers was looking for an online math problem generator. Specifically, she wanted to be able to enter an integer and get a variety of different mathematical exercises, word problems, etc. for which that integer were the solution. She was going to present her math geek boyfriend with the problem set, have him solve them. The integers were then supposed in some way not clear to me a romantic messege.

Needless to say, no such thing exists. The closest thing to it on the internet is this forum. So, I challenge you to help her out. Obviously, algebraic equations with the requisite integers as solutions would be easy, but very dull.

She needs, in her words,

11 problems that equal 1
7 problems that equal 4
5 problems that equal 5
4 problems that equal 6
15 problems that equal 7
5 problems that equal 8
and an astounding 42 problems that equal 0

Off the top of my head I have come up with

e^(i*pi) + 1 = 0. (This is prettier when written out the usual way with i and the pi symbol juxtaposed as a superscript to the e. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euler%27s_i? )

Shuffle a deck of cards, then cut it evenly into two piles. What is the probability that the number of red cards in one half will equal the number of black cards in the other? Answer: 1

tan(45) = 1

1/2 + 1/4 + 1/8 + ... = 1 (The ... indicates an infinite series.)

2/3 + 2/9 + 2/27 + ... = 1

Two lines in a cartesian plane are perpendicular to one another. Neither is vertical. Multiply their slopes and square the result. What do you get? Answer: 1

Two sides in a right triangle with integer sides are lengths 24 and 25. What is the length of the third? Answer: 7.

What is definite integral on [3,4] of 2xdx? Answer: 7

What is the only positve integer less than 13 that does not divide 112,709,931,840? Answer 7.
