NORTHWEST MATHEMATICS INTERACTION SUMMER PROGRAMS

Northwest Mathematics Interaction (NWMI) summer courses for
math teachers take place the last week of July -- and now seek
teachers from beyond Washington and the Park City Mathematics
Institute (PCMI).

Courses geared for the CCSS include

- Geometry and Measurement in the Common Core
- Serious Fun: Math Practices through Recreational Math
- Data and the Common Core: Middle and High School
- Algebra and the Common Core: Expressions, Functions
and Polynomials
- Algebra Alternative -- post Algebra 1: Going Deep into
Collection of Evidence

Since 1995, NWMI's high-energy immersion programs have
introduced participants to a broad spectrum of approaches to
teaching geometry and other subjects.

Founded as an outreach program of Washington-state PCMI alumni,
and affiliated with it ever since, NWMI is a collaboration of
Washington secondary and college math teachers sponsored by the
University of Washington Department of Mathematics.

LEARNING TRAJECTORIES

A research team has developed 18 learning trajectories that
unpack the K-8 CCSS for Mathematics from the standpoint of
student learning.

Created by a North Carolina State University team called
Generating Increased Science and Math Opportunities (GISMO),
TurnOnCCMath.net also elaborates the underlying scientific
research in mathematics education.

Click on a hexagon or a trajectory for detailed descriptors
that articulate students' progression from prior knowledge and
naive conceptions to more sophisticated mathematical concepts
and reasoning.

And stay tuned for a series of free, Massive Open Online
Courses for Educators (MOOC-Eds) to help you implement the CCSS
Mathematics using GISMO's Learning Trajectories.

GISMO receives support from the National Science Foundation
(NSF), the Oak Foundation, and the Joseph D. Moore Endowment.
