From and sent at the request of Linda Gojak, President of the
National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

I am sad to share that after a courageous bout with cancer, Kay
Gilliland passed on Tuesday, September 10 surrounded by family and
friends. Kay was a past president of the National Council of
Supervisors of Mathematics and was their newsletter editor for 7
years following her term as president. Kay was a national advocate
for equity in mathematics education and one of the founders of the
EQUALS project at the Lawrence Hall of Science. She was actively
involved in NCTM, NCSM, CMC and Mills College. In April 2013 Kay
added the Glenn Gilbert/Ross Taylor award, NCSM's highest honor, to
her many achievements.
