The Department of Mathematics at Winthrop University is receiving
applications for a 9-month, full time, tenure-track assistant or
associate professor position in mathematics education to begin in August
2014. Rank and salary will depend upon qualifications and experience.

Job responsibilities include teaching a variety of undergraduate and
graduate courses in mathematics and mathematics education, as well as
courses in Winthrop's general education program; coordinating the
teacher education program in the department (including supervising of
in-service teachers), aiding in the administration of mathematics
courses for elementary and middle-level education students, acting as
liaison between the department and the College of Education, and
supporting the NCTM/CAEP accreditation process. Duties of all faculty
members include advising and mentoring of mathematics majors,
participating in professional service activities, continuing productive
research/scholarly activities; and contributing to the creative and
intellectual atmosphere of the department and university.

Successful candidates will possess a Ph.D. in mathematics education or a
Ph.D. in mathematics with suitable coursework in mathematics education.
If the selected candidate is ABD at the start of employment, the
appointment will be as a non-tenure-track instructor. Past or present
certification as a classroom teacher with K-12 teaching experience is
necessary, as is evidence of teaching effectiveness and strong
commitment to student learning and development, evidence of an ability
to maintain an active scholarship agenda, and instructional experience
using technology such as dynamic geometry software and hand-held

Winthrop University is a comprehensive public university located in Rock
Hill, South Carolina, which is a vibrant medium-sized city located 20
miles south of Charlotte, North Carolina. In addition to its long
history as the state's flagship teachers' college, Winthrop has a strong
tradition of preparing students for a variety of post-baccalaureate
work. The Department of Mathematics currently employs 10 tenured or
tenure-track faculty in various fields of mathematics, and prizes
engaged teaching and student development. The Department offers two
undergraduate options for degrees in mathematics, houses the program for
mathematics certification in grades 9 through 12, provides a sequence of
content courses specifically for K-8 teachers, offers professional
development for area K-12 teachers, and provides theoretical and applied
mathematics courses for a variety of audiences.

The deadline for completed applications is December 2, 2013. Application
