***************************** Sent at the request of Bob Reys. ***************************** STaR Program for Early Career Mathematics Educators
Applications now being accepted for the 2014 Cohort
The Service, Teaching and Research (STaR) Program is a 1 year induction program for early career mathematics educators working at institutions of higher education. The program was initiated through a grant from the National Science Foundation. It includes a 5-day summer institute, academic year networking via electronic means, and a follow-up session in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMTE).
The Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators provides a professional home for the program. To date, 148 early career mathematics educators working at 113 institutions of higher education (in 41 states) have completed the program. A list of previous STaR Fellows and a summary of some current activities are available at http://starfellows.com .
The program is now accepting applications for the 5th cohort of STaR Fellows. This cohort will meet for the summer institute in Park City, Utah June 21-26, 2014 and then again for a half-day session in conjunction with the 2015 Annual Conference (February 12-14, 2015 in Orlando, FL). Eligibility is limited to new faculty with a doctorate in mathematics education in their first or second year of a tenure track appointment as a mathematics educator at a U.S. institution of higher education. The faculty appointment may be in a department of mathematics or a school/college/department of education. Admission is competitive as space is limited to 30 Fellows.
Application materials are available at http://matheddb.missouri.edu/star/. Completed applications are due by December 1, 2013. Applicants will be notified by December 31, 2013. If you have any questions, contact Robert Reys at reysr@missouri.edu.
