Creating Equations (module 1 lessons)

The lessons for addressing creating equations in one variable seem extremely compacted in the module. I have accelerated 8th graders and I know this would be too much too quick. I was just wondering how others are approaching this. My idea was to address general number word problems, then consecutive integer problems, and then progress to ratio problems. But based on the problem set it looks like work problems, mixture problems, and other types (coin and motion (d = rt) problems must be addressed. As I plan, this looks like at least 5 days of instruction/practice. How are others approaching this? Thanks.
