Postdoctoral Fellows in Mathematics Education
Boston University
2014-2015

The School of Education at Boston University seeks to fill a Postdoctoral Fellow position in Mathematics Education for 2014-2015. This is a one-year position and includes opportunities for research, publication, and teaching.

This fellow will serve as a Research Associate on the Pre-Service Teachers' Developing Understanding of Number Theory project. This project, led by Dr. Ziv Feldman, examines classroom interactions around mathematical tasks to identify the ways in which pre-service elementary teachers develop a deeper understanding of number theory concepts taught in the elementary grades. In addition, this Fellow will teach 2 math content or methods courses each semester for preservice or inservice teachers.

Candidates for this position must have an earned doctoral degree in mathematics education prior to starting the appointment. The successful applicant will have a demonstrated ability to engage in scholarship in mathematics education, experience teaching mathematics courses for preservice or inservice elementary or secondary school teachers, experience in both qualitative and quantitative methods of data analysis, and strong content knowledge of K-12 mathematics. Prior experience teaching in K-12 classrooms is strongly preferred.

The salary is $55,000 plus a conference travel stipend of $2,000. The postdoctoral fellow position also includes a competitive benefits package.

The position is open to all qualified U.S. citizens and permanent resident aliens without regard to race, age, gender, religion, color, national origin, or physical disability. The appointment will begin in August 2014.

Application review will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Prospective applicants should submit application materials electronically to Dr. Ziv Feldman (zfeld@bu.edu). Application materials must include a letter of interest, a curriculum vita, a statement of teaching philosophy, and two professional letters of reference. Inquiries about the position can be directed to Dr. Feldman.
