Because the length of the arc of the semicircle (with radius = 1) is just Pi in this case. It's just another way to express the "size" of an angle: you can use degrees (in this case we would claim that the angle is 180°) or you can use "arc lengt" (in this case we would claim that the angle is Pi (rad)).
