Mixed 912 Algebra I Classes

Currently, Concord High is 1012 high school. Starting next September Concord High School will be a 9 12 school. A question has come up about Algebra I classes. Currently, Algebra I classes at the Junior High are all 9th graders and the Algebra I classes at the high school are a mix of grades 10 12 with mostly 10th graders. Next year, we were planning to open the Algebra I classes to all 912 grade students but it was questioned whether or not we should maintain 9th grade only classes. What do other High Schools that are now 912 do? Do you isolate the 9th graders or do you mix all students who wish to enroll in an Algebra I class? If you mix grades, do you feel that the 9th graders are "intimidated" by the older students?
