I think we have all probably had student's like these. It's hard to know how
to turn them in the right direction. Sometimes, I feel like a brick wall
when I have to say "NO" so many times to the same student. I find my self
thinking "Don't you have a headache from hitting this brick wall so many
times??". I guess we can just hope that at sometime they will get the

At the high school and university levels I didn't have a lot of support when
I said NO. After all, at the high school it was always the teachers fault,
(at least where I was), and at the university I was just a lowly grad
student to the they pushed a lot. At the community college I
do get support for saying NO, as long as it's in my syllabus. :)

I hated math and was put in an Intermediate Algebra class at my CC to
work my
way up to a general ed course.

I don't exactly know what those community college teachers did right...
