Question 2. Areas of mathematical thinking.

In addition to Standards about mathematical content, we hope to
describe how student thinking in key mathematical areas might evolve
over grades preK-12--so-called process Standards. As with the content
Standards, each Standard will include a description of key ideas,
along with the developmental "trajectory" the ideas should take across
the grades, given our current knowledge of students' learning.

What are the major areas of student thinking that the writers should
focus on from preK-12? For example, might proof and reasoning be
considered as such a major area? What other major areas might be
useful?
