We have been using Sketchpad along with Serra's wonderful text Discovering Geometry for the past three years. It is has been a rejuvenating experience for me to see my students attack "traditional geometry" problems with the computer . . . in one 50 minute session, 75% of my students "discovered" four circle theorems which normally would have taken up 2+ days of two column proofs. I am having to rethink very seriously the role of technology in mathematics . . . if the TI-92 can factor quadratic polynomials with the touch of a few keys, how much time should I "hammer" away at FOIL?
