As I read the posts I hear of many positive experiences in math ed courses.
But people invariably mention that they could have done without most of their
ed courses.

Suggestion: why not make education courses voluntary? This would put the onus
on the ed professors to create really useful courses. Let's face it, those
guys have gotten complacent. If we eliminate all undergraduate ed programs
and fire most of the ed faculty, the ones left might be hungry enough to do a
good job!
