How's Mathematica?

Hello,
I've been seriously considering purchasing Mathematica 3.0, Student
version for Linux, ever since I learned that WRI supported the Linux
platform. However, I've been reading here that Mathematica has been
paranoid at best and unstable at worst. I was just wondering if someone
could give me a breakdown on the situation for the non-demo version- e.g.
does the system only work with certain Linux kernel versions; is it easy
to re-register in the event that I want to change my machine name; how
stable is it- does it crash as bad as Win95 on a good day; etc... Any
light you can shed on the subject would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Alan
