| Kali is an interactive editor for symmetric patterns of the plane, as seen in some of the woodcuts of M.C. Escher. It's also a fun way to learn about the 17 crystallographic symmetry groups of the plane. Choose a symmetry group; each is defined by a lattice and a set of two generators: a rotation, reflections, or glide reflections. A pattern is just a list of lines, each first reflected (if there are any reflection or glide reflection generators) and then all reflections rotated (if there is a rotation generator). Finally, the resulting figure is redrawn around every lattice point. | |
