The Teaching and Testing of Problem Solving, Reasoning and Critical Thinking (Part 1)

During this first of two parts, we will suggest strategies for teaching problem solving, reasoning and critical thinking. Participants will attack several problems, identify solutions, extend the problem to alternate solutions, and then, by varying the problem, encourage creativity on the part of the students. An attempt will be made to discover the mathematical underpinnings of the problems discussed.
