Teacher Review (Based on classroom experience)Reviewer: Craig, Jul 30 2004 3:26PM |
Classroom use in Courses and Topics: Probability & Statistics: Data and Distributions, Inference |
Duration of classroom use: One Semester |
What did students learn? Tool was not so much for learning as for analysis. |
What did students do with the resource? Students could graph data in a variety of ways, and do "standard" descriptive and inferential statistics (including one-way ANOVA). |
How hard was it for students to use? Ok |
Other classroom comments: I used the program to generate data and graphs for assessments. |
Appropriate for: introduction to a concept, applications of a concept or technique, advanced investigations |
Other Comments: Students could use this tool on their own to complete homework assignments, or in class to analyze data. I used it for demonstrations in class. |
What math does one need to know to use the resource? You need to be familiar with the basics of descriptive and inferential statistics and probability... the tool gives answers to questions, but you have to know what to ask. |
What hardware expertise does one need to learn to use the resource? Spreadsheet familiarity is useful, but not completely necessary. |
What extra things must be done to make it work? Register for use (free registration). |
How hard was it for you to learn? Easy |
Explanation: I had learned the basics of Minitab, and was very comfortable with spreadsheets, before trying StatCrunch. |
Ability to meet my goals: Effective |
Recommended for: Probability & Statistics: Data and Distributions, Probability, Inference |
Tool: StatCrunch Review
