restrictions: x cannot equal 1 or 2
This equation is in the form of a proportion, so "the product of the means
equals the product of the extremes."
So, 2(x2) = (x+1)1
2x  4 = x + 1
2x  x = 4 + 1
x = 5
Since 5 is not one of the restricted values, the solution set is {5}.
Check: 2/(5 + 1) = 1/(5  2)
2 / 6 = 1/ 3
