This is the summary of a presentation given at the Joint Mathematics Meetings, January 10-13, 1996, Orlando, Florida.

Implementing C4L

The C4L project, developed at Purdue University by Dubinsky & Schwingendorf, uses a constructivist pedagogy. The focus is shifted to the active participation of the students. My college has been using C4L in Calculus I, II, and III for the last three years.

Two pedagogic tools for C4L are cooperative learning and computer activities. There are many issues that an instructor must resolve to use these effectively. I will discuss some of the issues we considered, how we have changed, and why we made these changes.
