This is the summary of a presentation given at the Joint Mathematics Meetings, January 10-13, 1996, Orlando, Florida. ![]()
Promoting Success in Undergraduate EducationThe talk will describe the contributions of the UCSB Achievement Program and the South Coast Mathematics Partnership to increasing success and diversity in the mathematics program at the University of California, Santa Barbara. The talk will include both faculty and student perspectives. Curricula, instructional strategies, and methods to assess student progress that have been proved successful in the work of the Achievement Program and the Partnership will be described. These have been used as a foundation for building increased achievement for all students. Their influences are seen in summer bridge and mathematics and science summer institute programs, in summer and academic year undergraduate research programs, and in the ongoing departmental "calculus reform" efforts. |
