The Secondary School Teacher Program (SSTP) regards the teacher as the primary agent for promoting and implementing classroom reform. The SSTP is designed to enable teachers to make informed decisions and to implement change with confidence.
The SSTP is a paradigm for the lifelong professional development of secondary level school teachers, just as PCMI's graduate summer school/research component is a paradigm for the lifelong professional development of a research mathematician. As such, the Secondary School Teachers Program includes the following three components:
- continued rigorous mathematical learning
- analysis of classroom practice
- research, production, and dissemination of materials for
other teachers and their students
The SSTP is organized around three strands related to these goals and is enriched by additional activities tailored to specific participant needs and by programs involving other components of the PCMI community.
