Data Analysis Summary
Thursday, July 19
We began the session with a discussion about the format Carol gave us that we have decided to use for our final product. We tweaked it a bit because Carol thought that it might be a good idea for all the groups from PCMI to use the same format when creating a project.
Jeff Choppin introduced himself to us. He is helping Norm Webb with the evaluation of the HSTP program through the Wisconsin Center for Educational Research.
Marie asked for input on data websites. Members will get back to her with a list. It was discussed that when using FATHOM the best possible scenario would be to collect data yourself to use. However, it is possible to download data from the web or Geometer Sketchpad (there may be some problems associated with transferring some of this data).
We then prepared an outline for our presentation next Tuesday. It was decided that we needed to make sure that we have a computer hooked up to an overhead available. Art will take care of this.
We then went to the lab to set up our presentation, try it out and decide what data we needed to have already input in FATHOM. We will use only the survey data in a collection and will generate other info throughout the presentation. Don showed Jeff some of the nice aspects of FATHOM. We have found two problems, which we have e-mailed to Bill Finzer. Hoping for a reply before he returns next week.
