Visualizing Functions Summary

The Functions Working Group met four times this week and continued to work on the project which we defined at the end of last week.
Our project consists of a matrix with the rows being the items of mathematical content, and the columns being the mathematical practices. Each of us has taken a row in the matrix, and began seeking out an activity which covers the mathematical content. We then modified the activity as needed, in order to incorporate as many of the mathematical practices as possible. We are creating a teacher's version or answer key for each activity, in which we explicitly state the place in the activity where the students will demonstrate the mathematical practice. We note in the teacher's document the number of the mathematical practice, and a short explanation for why and how that practice applies.
The next steps involve setting up the structure to make the matrix easily searchable. We are thinking about having a search menu with dropdown options for level (high school or middle school) and for the individual items of mathematical content. We will also have a dropdown option for each mathematical practice, which will return a list of all activities which include that practice.
Members have begun to review each other's work as they complete an activity. We will continue to polish up our work this week, and begin to prepare the documentation which will be required by the end of the week.
