You will need to create a column for the names of the planets, their diameters, the scale model diameters, the planet distances from the sun, and the scale model distances. You will also need to set aside a cell for the scaling factor for diameters and distances.
The diameter and distance data in this table is from Bill Arnett's web site The Nine Planets.
To compute the scale diameters, you will need to multiply the scaling factor by each planet's diameter. If your scaling factor is in cell C1 and your diameters are in cells B3 through B12, then to compute the scale diameters, enter the formula, =B3*C$1, into cell C3 and use Fill Down. The same method applies to computing the scale distances.
If the scale diameters and distances in columns C and E are assumed to be in inches, you can create an additional column, F, to compute the scale distances in feet or miles. Models of the solar system usually use different scales for the diameters and the distances. Why?
