It gives you the percentage of all the correct problems, instead of the mean of the percentages of the idividual tests. There's nothing "wrong" about it. When students try to add fractions this way (by summing the numerators and denominators) I show them that this is not a sum, but rather a pooled average. Like the baseball example given.
