As language arts teacher with math certification, I answer, "Yes, in cases where the pattern is repetitive." Some plaids, however, are random--which makes an array impossible. Arrays must form squares or rectangles. If you were to assign numerical value to stripes in a plaid such that all stripes of the same width and color had the same value, those stripes could repeat themselves in an array. The directional differences (horizontal/vertical) of the stripes operate in the same ways as distribution of multiplicands. rrw
