Subject: Pre-Algebra

I'd be interested in hearing how other middle school teachers view note-
taking and notebooks in class.  I've always felt that taking notes was 
beneficial but always end up very frustrated with the quality of notes, 
etc.  How do you get your students to take and use good notes?  How do 
you grade the notebooks?
