Lessons using the Image_and_Cursor applet
- How Far Between Cities?
- Part I is a step-by-step activity encouraging students to "see" how an applet can be used to form a right triangle on a map. Part II shows students how to apply the Pythagorean Theorem to calculate the distance between two points on a map.
- Teacher Lesson Plan: Part I and Part II || Student Page: Part I and Part II || Applet Page
- Suggestions for Finding Maps
- Four possible sources of maps are explained so that teachers can find local maps.
- Directions
- How to Change Maps/Photos
- A "how-to" for changing the current map or portrait photo to one of your choosing.

Lessons using the Parameter_Plane applet
- Exploring Roots of a Quadratic Equation
- Students view the graph of the quadratic equation, x^2 + x - 6 and they are able to manipulate a second graph of x^2 - bx + a on the same plane. Explorations include identifying the roots, the connection between the graph and factoring, etc.
- Teacher Lesson Plan || Student Activity || Applet
- Exploring Parabolas
- Students match six quadratic equations to one of six graphs of parabolas.
- Teacher Lesson Plan || Student Activity || Applet I || Applet II
