AlgPoW Conversation Notes

The Institute AlgPoW working group (Danielle, Shirley, Jo, Dave, Matt & Shelly) revised a previous categorization scheme to create the following top level topics:

  • Linear functions
  • Coordinate plane
  • Interpreting graphs
  • Inequalties
  • System of equations/inequalities
  • Higher polynomials (greater than second degree)
  • Matrices
  • Quadratic functions
  • Exponential/Logarithmic functions
  • Geometric applications
  • Patterns/logic
The following searchwords were identified:
  • intercept
  • slope
  • coordinate plane
  • domain/range
  • absolute value
  • Pythagorean Theorem
  • distance
  • linear programming
  • rational expression
  • factoring
  • radical
  • conic sections
  • direct/inverse variation
Other notes:
  • order of operations, algebraic expressions, scientific notation, and integers should be covered in MidPoW
  • rational expressions should be a major topic in Trig/Calc
  • exponential functions and logarithmic functions should be separated for Trig/Calc
