Greensburg Salem High School, Greensburg, PennsylvaniaJim Kearns teaches Geometry, Algebra I, and Algebra II to 9th graders at Greensburg Salem High School near Pittsburgh, PA. Over the past several years he has watched the evolution of the Forum workshops via the Internet, but because he has been teaching workshops of his own each summer at Seton Hill College, his summers have never been open enough for him to apply.
Jim's Web pages include:
- a Problem of the Week
- a Problem of the Month
- an Archive of Problems
- Math Fun Packs: problem sets designed for review and challenge
- An index of geometry activities that integrate the Internet into the Chicago Math curriculum
- A daily arithmetic, algebra, or geometry SAT-type problem designed to review and enrich
... and more.
Jim has been charged with developng Web pages for SAT review based on actual SAT questions from the last ten examinations. The pages would be used in Greensburg Salem's SAT prep course and for a change of pace in math courses. This summer he plans to work on these pages and on incorporating Internet information into the math curriculum.
