Zhanbo Yang - Online Participant

E-mail: yang@universe.uiwtx.edu
University of the Incarnate Word, San Antonio, Texas

Zhanbo Yang is currently Associate Professor of Mathematics at the University of the Incarnate Word. He is interested in incorporating Internet-based materials into his classroom instruction, particularly in undergraduate level courses, and in developing Internet-based multimedia projects geared toward particular mathematical concepts or groups of related concepts. He plans to create projects that students can complete interactively, online.

This summer he will be participating in a summer technology institute to be held on the UIW campus, where multimedia authoring will be discussed. He has also received a technology grant with which to purchase software and hardware and for related purposes. Support from the UIW administration has been strong.

Yang has used graphing calculators and computers in his classes for several years, and built the Web site for the Department of Mathematics at Shawnee State University when he was working there. Since his arrival at the University of the Incarnate Word, he has also developed its Math Department Web site. Both were developed using Navigator Gold and both were the first departmental home pages at their respective institutions. Yang's personal home page was developed using MS front page 98.

Yang has accomplished all of the above basically by reading books and through trial and error, and he looks forward to an opportunity to communicate with other people who are more experienced. During the Institute, he will be teaching the technology component of an Eisenhower program daily, but he hopes to be able to join us online as time permits.
