Lesson Objectives:
solve problems using fractions explore equalness and estimation

Materials required:
  Cookies Milk (10)plastic knives

Description:
In this lesson students will divide a set of cookies evenly amongst their number. The numbers will not be even so basic fraction use will be needed.

Procedure:
Divide your students into 5 groups with variable numbers in them. Give each group a number of cookies that does not divide evenly, with clear instuctions that they can not eat any cookies yet!

Without breaking any cookies share cookies evenly. Have the students take extras and find how many pieces they must cut into to share then equally. Have the students record their results.

The students are to take one cookie from the total and share the one cookie. It must be divided with a knife. Then the tsudents can eat that one cookie.

Now have each group redo this activity with one less cookie. Have them repeat each time until there are no cookies left, recording results each time.

Instruct your students to write a one paragraph essay, discussing their results. Steer the essays to answer what they learnt by repeating the process the way they did.
