Title: Memory Shapes

Grade Levels: K-2

Subject: Math-Beginning Patterns

Materials: Story Book-Little Red Riding Hoodand the Three Squares

Introduction: Use KWL process to assess children knowledge of the classic story of
Little Red Riding Hood.

Procedures:

1. Read sttory of Little Red Riding Hood and the Three squares.

2. Develop inference, experience, and factual questions to discuss the details of the text.

3. Use the KWL process to assess student knowledge.

4. Present the students with stencil shapes, and allow them to examine and play
with the forms.

5. Demonstrate a short math problem with three squares, for example;

1+1=___ 0+1=___
2+1=___ 0+2=___
1+1+1=___ 0+3=___

Subject: Math Beginning Patterns

Introduction: Sack Full of Shapes

Materials: Sand paper shapes-(different sizes), card board/poster shapes (different sizes), medium size paper bags, Plastic shapes (different sizes),crayons, pencils, paper,

Procedures:

1. Review the story of Little Red Riding Hood and the Three Squares.

2. Display the basic four geometric shapes. Allow the students to identify the shapes orally.

3. Place the shapes in the bag and shake the bag, also place different shapes not discussed into the bag.

4. Select a student for a demonstration of the game. Have the student put his/her
hand inside the bag and without looking at the shapes, describe and name the shapes.

5. Let the students take turns, gather the students into cooperative groups, allow them
to play the game for fifteen minutes.

6. Regroup, use KWL process to assess the students knowledge.

7. Allow the students to draw and trace their favorite shape.

8. Write a math performance task and have the students to work in cooperative groups.
