ACTIVITIES

Rote Counting:
• Count the animals.
• Count the flags.
• Bridge building.
  *Preview for additional material required. With a small group, construct various bridges. Which holds more than 10 pennies? Which holds the most pennies?

Shape Recognition:
• Look at the flags. What shapes do you recognize?
  
• Look at the pyramids. What shapes do you recognize?
  
  
Color Recognition:
• Look at the flags. What colors do you recognize?
  
  
  Extension Activities: Have students assemble flags using tanagram shapes.
  Have students create flags using their choice of colors and
  shapes.
  
  Have students create pyramids using toothpicks and clay or
  blocks, perhaps self selected manipulatives.

Heavy or Light:
• Look at the animals. Which animal do you think is the heaviest /
  lightest? What sound does it make?


Pattern Recognition:
• Show students mudcloth or a picture of mudcloth or kente cloth. . Ask them what shapes or designs they see. Encourage them
  to recognize the repeating shapes and designs.
  
  
  Extension Activity: Have students mix mud and blue (indigo) paint. Encourage them to paint a pattern on burlap or construction strips
