BEFORE

It was just a strip of grass that Richard mowed.

The weather was warm and the dirt had dried.

Lee and Richard use a rake and a hoe to knock the dirt off the grass.

They discarded the grass on the sidewalk and later filled 12 bags for the trash!
READY FOR PLANTING

The dirt has been cleared and the "decorative addition" is in place. (It can't be called a fence because of the building inspector!

Richard and Lee still had all of the "good dirt" to work into the clay soil before planting could really begin.
PLANTED

First good soil was worked into the dirt.

Richard and Lee went to the rock store and handpicked all of the stones.

We ordered four climbing roses from Jackson and Perkins.

Two of the roses are orange, one is pink, and one is yellow.

We bought lillies, a low evergreen and another perennial.

All but the roses were planted.

Finally the roses arrived and we planted them.

We edged the garden with dark bark and them placed all of the hand-picked stones.
AFTER
I'll add photos once the roses start to climb and bloom!
